Visit of Ambassadeur de France

A scoop for the Rockhampton Alliance in 2013 was the visit by the French Ambassador to Australia which took place in August.  It involved a ceremony to celebrate the life of Anthelme Thozet, a French botanist and ethnographer who came to Rockhampton in the late 1850’s. Thozet was instrumental in developing the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens founded in 1861, the first Rockhampton (south) cemetery, and the tree plantings along the Fitzroy River CBD area.
